APPLIED PRECISION'S WAFERWORX WINS SEMICONDUCTOR INTERNATIONAL'S "EDITORS' CHOICE BEST PRODUCT" AWARD
Issaquah, Wash. - October 12, 2000 - Applied Precision's waferWoRx™ Probing Process Analysis System has been recognized by Semiconductor International magazine as an "Editors' Choice Best Product." Applied Precision's customers, including world-class companies such as Agilent Technologies and Motorola, nominated Applied Precision for the award. Their nominations indicate that they have found the waferWoRx system to significantly enhance the efficiency and productivity of their wafer probing process.

"We are delighted to receive this award and would like to thank our customers for the nomination," said Bob Heiligenberg, Applied Precision's semiconductor product line manager. "Our semiconductor product line team worked hard this year to deliver a product that helps our customers increase yield, troubleshoot and repair their probing processes, and helps them assess their readiness for the ever-shrinking technology demands of this industry."

The waferWoRx system improves the semiconductor wafer probing process by analyzing probe marks and extracting the individual performance of the prober, probe card and probe card analyzer. The system then prescribes corrective action that can optimize probing performance and ultimately increase efficiency of the wafer test floor. This information can also be used to monitor existing processes and identify problem areas before they have significant effect on yield. Additionally, engineers can establish the process tolerances necessary to shrink the pad size and increase the number of die per wafer, and can assess both current and new equipment for new technology readiness.

About the Editors' Choice Best Product Awards Program

The Editors' Choice Best Product Awards Program was established in 1989 to recognize superior performance of equipment, materials, software and other products that advance wafer processing, chip assembly or packaging, or process testing capabilities; enhance semiconductor or related manufacturing; improve employee productivity or working conditions; or help a manufacturer provide a safer workplace or be more environmentally responsible. The Editors' Choice program differs from other product awards in that products must be nominated by their users, not by the companies that make or sell them. All 20 winners this year were nominated by one or more knowledgeable users, and Semiconductor International's editors used extensive comments from users in choosing the winners. As a 2000 Best Product Award recipient, Applied Precision joins the ranks of other Editors' Choice Best Product Award-winning companies including 1999 Grand Award winner Palomar Technologies, and 1999 Best Product Award winners Applied Materials, KLA-Tencor and Leica Microsystems.
