APPLIED PRECISION AND BIOSPACE.COM SIGN BIOTECHNOLOGY E-COMMERCE AGREEMENT
Issaquah, Wash. - June 29, 2000 - To facilitate customers' easy access to its equipment and accessories for pharmaceutical and biotechnological research, Applied Precision Inc. has signed an e-commerce agreement with BioSpace.com, the most heavily trafficked business-to-business (B2B) vertical portal for the life sciences industry. Applied Precision provides computer workstations, imaging systems, software and accessories - including the DeltaVision® Restoration Microscopy System and the arrayWoRx™ MicroArray Scanner - that enable researchers to image DNA chips, proteins and sub-cellular structures with more accuracy and repeatability than are available anywhere else.

BioSpace.com facilitates the exchange of products, services and information crucial to life sciences research and development, with the overriding goal of improving productivity in the process of discovery. The company's "hubsite" provides access to the industry's five basic needs: information, products and services, people, capital, and patients who ultimately benefit from clinical trials research. Since December of 1999, BioSpace.com has been working in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under the organization's Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to develop an online marketplace for the life sciences industry.

"Through our partnership with BioSpace.com, Applied Precision's customers have access to high-quality and relevant biotechnology information and products in a single location," said Rich Fisler, Applied Precision's biotechnology product line manager. "BioSpace.com's established user base and alliance with the NIH benefits us because we know we're targeting the right audience with our products. In turn our customers will benefit from the efficiencies created by online procurement and the reliability of transacting on BioSpace.com's NIH-backed e-commerce platform."

"Applied Precision's image acquisition and analysis products are a welcome addition to our life sciences marketplace," said Scott Clark, chief executive officer of BioSpace.com. "BioSpace.com Supplies is an e-commerce solution designed to provide access to everything necessary for life sciences research and product development. Given Applied Precision's established reputation as a leading supplier of some of the most sophisticated biotechnology equipment available, we believe our marketplace benefits tremendously from its important contribution."
